Description:
Reporting to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations (CFGR) is responsible for pursuing external funding for Cazenovia College initiatives, research, programs, and projects. The Director identifies potential funding sources, executes written proposals (solely or in collaboration with key campus partners) and manages the submission, stewardship, and administering of funded grants. The Director is responsible for increasing Cazenovia College’s visibility among regional, state, and national private foundations, businesses, corporations, and government associated funding entities by establishing long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with the corporate and foundation sector, as well as other key communities, which result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of the College.
The Director of CFGR must possess exceptional skills in organization and collaboration in order to balance being externally focused in building relationships, while also managing a complex proposal pipeline and process involving a broad range of campus partners. Internal key partners include but are not limited to the College’s Business and Budget Office, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of 50+ foundation and corporate relationships; develop and implement detailed moves management strategies that lead to philanthropic commitments that support the mission and goals of the College. Maintain a rigorous schedule of contacts with corporate and foundation representatives, including a substantial number of visits per year.
- In partnership with the College leadership team, faculty, division chairs, administrators, and advancement staff, develop highly competitive proposals for corporate, foundation and government prospects in support of college goals. Produce, write, and edit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and reports in appropriate language for donors. Maintain a comprehensive proposal pipeline that manages the process of preparing and submitting proposals, letters of intent, budgets, and reports, meeting all donor/prospect deadlines.
- Develop and manage a standard process for campus partners to follow when interested in partnering to submit grant proposals and communicate this process effectively and consistently with College Leadership, Department and Division leads.
- Maintain current knowledge of institutional priorities, programs, and events for informed, effective, and productive prospect and donor engagement.
- Work with College leadership (Vice Presidents of each functional unit) to enhance the collaboration and leverage resources between offices.
- In partnership with the Offices of Career services, participate in the development of a new corporate and community partners program that provides opportunities for students (e.g., internships) and brings additional resources to the College.
- Maintain high-quality stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospects and donors. Maintain accurate and detailed records of foundation gift correspondence and agreements. Work with program managers, budget office, and others as needed to ensure that reporting requirements are met. Steward individual and organizational relationships, providing additional reporting and engagement as needed to ensure successful ongoing partnerships.
- Work with external elected officials, their representatives, or lobbyists for state/federal grants when applicable.
- Document all development activity related to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and reporting/stewardship using the NXT database.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of grant writing and CFGR experience, preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization).
- Preference will be given to candidates with corporate and/or foundation and/or state government experience, particularly with a private college or university)
- Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly for corporations, foundations, and government entities, with a record of success in generating significant commitments from these entities.
- Exceptional writing skills required, with demonstrated ability in effective grant and proposal writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations, foundations, and state government.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills with large groups as well as individuals.
- Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in all circumstances.
- Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors, and interact via telephone, video conferencing, and in person with institutional representatives.
- Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
Evening/weekend work is sometimes required.
