Packaging Engineer

 

Title of Position:  Packaging Engineer
Department:  Product Development & Engineering (PD&E)
Position Title of Immediate Supervisor:  Product Development & Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer


PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Packaging Engineer will be directly involved in the development of packaging solutions for new and existing product lines. This position will also provide support for the optimization and value engineering of existing packaging materials, methods, and instructions. The primary responsibilities of the Packaging Engineer will include but are not limited to: designing, prototyping, and validating new packaging solutions, specifying packaging materials and processes for new or existing designs, and collaborating with other departments to meet project goals and objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Design packaging solutions used in the manufacture of residential and vehicle seating products for new products and to drive improvements in quality performance and cost
 Specify packaging materials, processes, and equipment that provide best total overall quality and cost 
 Assist development teams in meeting project goals at cost targets and on-time to established schedules
 Conduct or coordinate product testing to ensure compliance with internal and industry quality standards
 Create drawings and other product documentation for use by PD&E, Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, and Merchandising
 Understand and stay informed with industry recognized packaging standards and make suggestions for improvements
 Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) as assigned in a timely manner
 Enter and maintain product data in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system as needed
 Other duties as assigned by supervisor
 Up to 30% domestic/international travel required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Basic Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related field from an accredited university
 Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
 Experience in solid modeling using a 3D CAD program
 Excellent written and oral communication skills
 Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with other departments
 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:
 Experience working in the furniture industry
 Experience using SolidWorks (3D CAD)
 Project management experience while working in a cross-functional team
