Forestry Workers
Garcia Forest Service is hiring 60 temporary full-time forestry workers to work in Jasper County, GA and continuing work into Colombus, GA, Lowcountry, SC, Putnam County, GA, Sumter, SC, Macon, GA, Tallahassee, FL, Newberry, SC, Chesterfield, SC, Kershaw, SC, Marion, FL, Piedmont Area, NC and Columbia, FL from Oct. 31, 2017 - February 15, 2018. All applicants must be able, willing, qualified to perform work described and be available for the entire period specified. Transport provided from designated locale to job site. All job sites will be within 1 ½ hours from designated locale. Must be 18 yrs or older.
Possible duties: dig holes to plant seedling trees without J or U root, carefully secure seedling with soil, maintain seedling growth by spray, hand prune, maintain surrounding vegetation, pile/remove debris, identify disease/undesirable trees and remove them, thin and space trees with the use of power saws and hand saws. Maintain tallies of trees examined. Job duties require moving your entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials. Extensive walking through rough terrain. 3 months brushsaw/chainsaw experience required.
Employer will provide all tools, supplies, equipment required without charge. Employer will provide housing. $11.69/hour up to possible $15.00/hour. OT wage $17.54/hour up to possible $22.50/hour. Wages may vary. 7 hours/day. Monday - Friday. 35 hours/week. 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. Variable weather conditions apply; hours may fluctuate, possible downtime/OT. The employer will make all deductions required by law and will comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws. Transportation (including meals and, to the extent necessary lodging) to the place of employment will be provide, or its cost reimbursed, if the worker completes half the employment period. Return transportation will be provided with the minimum of $12.07 and max of $51/day with receipts.
