Job Description:
This position exists to lead one or more service and/or production areas of responsibility within the University’s Dining Hall, ensuring adherence to operational standards established internally by the Assistant Director and Director.
Authority and Accountability
Under the direction of the Commons Dining Hall Manager, this position directly supervises PIN Food Service Aide II, Contingent Food Service Assistant, and Student employee positions. This position has indirect supervision over Supervisor and Food Service Specialist positions. The typical number of employees for which this position directly and indirectly supervises is 50.
This position has limited responsibility for budget transaction review. They may monitor the budget for a specific purpose (e.g. prepare necessary documentation for supervisory review/approval, tabulate budgetary date, calculate figures, and check for accuracy).
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Education: Minimum associates degree or educational equivalency
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
Work Experience: Minimum 3 years in a food service environment, at least 1 year of which was in a lead or supervisory role.
Licenses/Certifications: ServSafe Manager certification completed within six months of hire and renewed upon each expiration.
Physical Demands: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (frequently: activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. General office work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or formal culinary training
Experience: service experience preferred.
