ROLE of the POSITION
Reporting to the Director, School of Medicine Library, the Multimedia & Design Specialist is a key member of a team of professionals responsible for supporting the Makerspace in the School of Medicine Library. The Multimedia & Design Specialist provides expert instructions for groups utilizing specialized multimedia technologies for educational and research purposes and provides personalized consultation on multimedia use, creation, manipulation, and publishing to individuals. Through outreach to faculty, staff, students, physician trainees, and interdisciplinary campus groups, the Specialist exercises leadership in developing and evolving multimedia and design technologies and services that support knowledge creation. Additionally, the Specialist will investigate and evaluate emerging technologies for potential adoption, develop online learning objects, coordinate projects, provide workshops, and develop professional development opportunities for student employees who support multimedia creation and use at the School of Medicine Library.

The School of Medicine Library (SOML) was established in 2017 as part of an effort to create a new medical school in Southern Nevada. SOML was established as a mostly digital library with nearly 97% of library resources primarily online. As a division of UNLV Libraries, SOML falls within the scope of the university library system and directly reports to the Dean of Libraries. SOML primarily supports the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV which offers both an undergraduate medical education program comprised of medical students and a graduate medical education program comprised of physician trainees (residents and fellows). Each year the medical school welcomes 60 new medical students and approximately 80 residents and fellows in over 20 post-graduate programs. In support of the efforts to build physician capacity in Southern Nevada, SOML partners with the medical school faculty and staff to provide instruction, library programming, and access to library resources and services with a team of three library academic faculty, one staff, and seven student assistants at one location within the Las Vegas Medical District.

- Current experience and working knowledge with 3D Printing hardware and software technologies
- Current experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent platforms using audio and video editing software.
- Demonstrate proficiency with any combination of contemporary operating systems (Windows, iOS, etc.) AND with productivity software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, etc.).
- 1 to 2 years of experience working in either an academic, public, special library, gallery, museum, archives OR other type of educational setting.
- Working knowledge of encoding and transcoding different media formats using software
- Working knowledge of virtual reality hardware
- Experience with working in the health sciences, biomedicine, or healthcare disciplines
- Familiarity with information literacy principles as they apply to the creation of new knowledge.
- Working knowledge and experience with library-related software (Springshare, Library Services Platforms, etc.).

This is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative Faculty position at a Grade B. Minimum salary is $48,000. Salary is competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
