SEARCH DESCRIPTION:
The University of New Haven’s Facilities Department invites applications for a Licensed General Maintenance Mechanic, third shift (Tuesday through Saturday 11pm – 7:30am). The successful candidate will be expected to install, maintain, repair, inspect and service all of the University’s West Haven campus buildings, utilities, structures, and grounds encompassing academics, athletics, residential housing, and administrative office buildings. It is also expected that the incumbent will perform work within and outside his/her license(s) jurisdiction in any or all of the above areas including non-maintenance and construction projects.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Applicants must possess a Connecticut state tradesmen’s license of one or more of the following designations (E-2, S-2, P-2) with a high level of comprehension and expertise in the area of licensure. In addition, applicants must have broad working knowledge of electricity, plumbing, mechanical and pneumatic controls, carpentry, masonry, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning such that general service work (non-licensed) in all areas can be performed. The incumbent must, possess the skills necessary to effectively troubleshoot problems, diagnose problems, interpret building and safety codes, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams. Knowledge and capability of operating hand and power shop equipment and tools is required.
EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a collaborative manner with peers and colleagues.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Superior customer service skills and ability to respond in a professional, courteous, timely and constructive manner.
- Ability to understand and interpret work orders and document all follow up via the University’s work order system.
- The incumbent will be required to work scheduled overtime, special events and be on call for emergencies. In addition, employees will be required to work under inclement weather conditions.
- Comply with all safety regulations and procedures common to the individual’s job classification and University rules and procedures.
- The incumbent must be physically capable of performing all tasks and duties assigned for this position and keep an orderly and clean grooming appearance.
