Director of Academic Budget
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a Director of Academic Budget to work with Academic Affairs. The Academic Budget Team within Academic Affairs supports budget and resource management for the college and academic support units reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor. There are approximately 20 colleges and units supported with annual operations in excess of $350 million, nearly one-third of the university’s annual operating budget. The Academic Budget Team collectively provides support and guidance to college and unit leadership and business and administrative support staff.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in business administration, public administration, higher education leadership, or related field. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience preferably in higher education; minimum of two years of supervisory experience of professional-level staff; demonstrated leadership experience and budget management in an enterprise large and complex in scope. Advanced technical skills using a wide range of systems, analytical and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, interpersonal skills showing empathy and understanding, and effective relationship-building.
Essential Job Duties: Provides leadership for financial and accounting support for academic affairs for a large, public university including 7 colleges and 11 academic support units. Designs and implements systems for management of division budget and overall financial activity, provides guidance and organization with regard to annual and multi-year budgeting for all funds, leads budget team and college business staff for budget planning and budget actions, manages all aspects of the academic budget including operating, capital, and personnel planning. Oversees college and unit level financial monitoring and analysis, recommends courses of action, and offers alternatives to management with regard to analysis and trends, and change management. Builds and manages budget team to support the academic enterprise providing appropriate guidance, onboarding, supervision, performance management, regular feedback, and professional development. The position works under the guidance of the Associate Provost for Academic Budget and has a high level of independence and administrative authority, serving in a division-level leadership role.
