This position is based in Charlotte, NC, and may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Associate Director of Career Coaching in the Career & Leadership for MBA & Alumni department coaches MBA students and alumni at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School seeking jobs in a variety of industries. The Associate Director plans and delivers career planning and job search programming to MBA students in small-group formats, workshops, and large classroom/auditorium presentations, in-person and virtual. This position is also responsible for 1-on-1 and small group student career coaching. The Associate Director will also manage and participate in several career management-related initiatives and events throughout the year.
The Associate Director reports to the Senior Associate Director of Career Coaching within the Career & Leadership for MBA & Alumni department. The position will work collaboratively with staff within Career Coaching, Employer Engagement & Recruiting, and Operations and numerous critical departments across the School, like BSBA Career Management, MAC Career Management, MBA Student Engagement, MBA Admissions, Centers of Excellence, and faculty, among others.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-Candidates who do not have a master’s degree will be required to possess a coaching certification (ICF, NCDA, CCE or other coaching organization) or assessment certification (Gallup CliftonStrengths, Birkman, Strong, DiSC, MyersBriggs, or other instruments related to career and leadership development).
-Must have at least five years of industry experience in consulting, banking, finance, technology, real estate, health care, human resources, marketing, higher education/student services, or as an executive or career coach.
-Critical skills include the ability to build internal and external relationships with broad constituencies; a demonstrated commitment to customer service; and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
-The candidate must have strong writing and verbal skills and be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population of high-performing individuals. Candidate should possess excellent public speaking skills and be able to address students and other constituencies in small-group settings, workshops and classroom/auditorium presentations. The ability work in a fast-paced, energetic environment, and be able to multitask and meet multiple deadlines.
-Candidates must be able to work evenings on an alternating basis, and be able to travel up to 15%, to support various job-related functions.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-Demonstrated knowledge of career management and talent development and some leadership development programming is a plus.
-An understanding of the MBA career landscape is helpful in this role.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
